It is with a heavy heart that we share some sad news. On 29th January 2026, Nick Larkins, founder and Chief Research Officer at AKL Research and Development passed away peacefully in his sleep following a short illness.

Nick’s lifetime of research into plant-derived compounds was the driving force behind the formation of AKL. It is particularly poignant that he passed before seeing the most recent, emerging and encouraging data from the Phase 2b trial, which validates so much of his vision.

We will miss him deeply. While Nick had recently stepped back from day-to-day involvement, his legacy leaves us on a strong footing and AKL will continue without interruption.
